Step 1: Identifying the Need

Thabo is struggling to find reliable online sources for his assignment. A lecturer advised him to ask the library for help.

Thabo: "I’ve been trying to find journal articles for my Power Systems assignment, but Google isn’t helping. Let me check the CUT Library."


Step 2: Visiting the Library or Accessing the Website

He visits the Bloemfontein /Welkom Library during his free period and OR e-mail the faculty librarians.

“Good day, I’m a Diploma student in Electrical Engineering. I need help learning how to find academic journal articles and eBooks. Do you offer any training?”


Step 3: The Librarian Responds

Librarian:
“Yes, we do offer student training sessions. You can book a one-on-one session or join a scheduled group session. I can also show you quickly how to access LibGuides and the databases now if you have time.”


Step 4: Booking the Training

Thabo decides to book a one-on-one session.

Librarian:
“Let’s book your session. Please provide your student number, name, and the topic you need help with. We’ll meet tomorrow at 10:00 in the Training Room.”


Step 5: Attending the Training

The next day, Thabo attends the session and learns:

  • How to use EBSCOhost and ScienceDirect databases.

  • How to access eBooks via the CUT Library website.

  • How to use the LibGuide for Electrical Engineering.

  • How to reference using Harvard style.

Thabo (after the session):
“This was really helpful. I feel more confident searching for academic sources now.”


Step 6: Follow-Up

The librarian emails him a training guide PDF and reminds him he can come back anytime for more support.
