Thabo is struggling to find reliable online sources for his assignment. A lecturer advised him to ask the library for help.
Thabo: "I’ve been trying to find journal articles for my Power Systems assignment, but Google isn’t helping. Let me check the CUT Library."
He visits the Bloemfontein /Welkom Library during his free period and OR e-mail the faculty librarians.

Thabo (at the Info Desk):
“Good day, I’m a Diploma student in Electrical Engineering. I need help learning how to find academic journal articles and eBooks. Do you offer any training?”
Librarian:
“Yes, we do offer student training sessions. You can book a one-on-one session or join a scheduled group session. I can also show you quickly how to access LibGuides and the databases now if you have time.”
Thabo decides to book a one-on-one session.
Librarian:
“Let’s book your session. Please provide your student number, name, and the topic you need help with. We’ll meet tomorrow at 10:00 in the Training Room.”
The next day, Thabo attends the session and learns:
How to use EBSCOhost and ScienceDirect databases.
How to access eBooks via the CUT Library website.
How to use the LibGuide for Electrical Engineering.
How to reference using Harvard style.
Thabo (after the session):
“This was really helpful. I feel more confident searching for academic sources now.”
The librarian emails him a training guide PDF and reminds him he can come back anytime for more support.
This example shows how a typical student at CUT can seek and benefit from library training. Training is available for:
Searching databases and eBooks
Referencing and citation tools
Using LibGuides
Finding academic journal articles
